In its fourth annual festival, GALA continues its collaboration with Madrid’s Casa
Patas, the renowned cultural center for contemporary flamenco, to bring Washington
audiences the best of this time-honored art form. Guadalupe Torres and other
internationally acclaimed artists will raise the roof in her four performances of
mesmerizing flamenco. Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain.

Workshops in guitar, castanets and roundtables for children and the entire family led
by leading local flamenco artists, including Lourdes Elias, Jaime Coronado and Edwin
Aparicio. Regular Admission $10. Schedule to be announced.


Edwin Aparicio and Company
December 6 and 7, 2008 at 8pm

This fiery foot-stomping flamenco artist and his outstanding group of dancers,
cantaores, and guitarists from Los Angeles, New York, and Spain will take your breath
away. Aparicio, who has been the anchor of GALA’s festival since its beginning,
combines a highly polished technique with innovative choreography exploring
contemporary themes.

renowned Philadelphia-based Pig Iron Theater Company, struts her/his alter ego in
this hilarious drag cabaret inspired by great divas from Judy Garland to Elton John.
The Philadelphia Inquirer hailed it as “the striking, sultry, sparkly champagne toast of
Philadelphia’s cabaret scene.”

The Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela

This youth orchestra was founded in 1975 and has created new opportunities for
musical excellence in Venezuela. Touring extensively, the symphony is comprised of
young musicians between the ages of 16 and 20. These artists are products of a
system that is of extraordinary social, musical and educational importance in
Venezuela.
